Lutsk Gates is an architectural landmark of a national importance. An artist JakubMadleni built it out of stone and brick, in a renaissance style in 1623. Lutsk Gates is located on an old road from Dubno to Lutsk, it was an entrance gate and watch tower. The building was connected with earthen berm protecting the city from the east. A bridge overa water ditch was attached to the Gates.Lutsk Gates is a unique type of a small barbican. You will not find something like this in Ukraine, except from Volyn region. The tower looks like a small ellipse connected to a long rectangle turned to the city.
Lutsk Gates was connected with the castle of Ostroski family located in the east part of the city by an underground passage. Obviously, Mykola Gogol mentions this Lutsk Gates. There was a Masonic lodge in the ХVІІІ century. The lodge held meetings on the second floor of the Gates.
